Tea and Comfort

There are some deliciously soothing teas that are also great for your pregnancy.  Michele East, mother of a gorgeous boy wonder and yoga guru at Karuna Yoga, tells us that red raspberry leaf tea is an excellent uterine conditioner before and after your pregnancy.  She found that keeping a pitcher iced in her fridge was great for morning sickness too!

She also says that nettle is a fantastic pregnancy herb, excellent for the blood stream and as a food cooked in soups has lots of iron.  It has a comforting aroma and taste too.

Well... it took us weeks to actually get to Whole Foods Market and buy the recipe, but if you can, we can say that we really enjoyed it!

The Recipe (make in bulk):
2 parts red raspberry leaf
2 parts nettle
1 part oat straw
1/2 part chamomile
1/4 part spearmint leaf

Mix together and store in cool dry place.
For tea, use 4 tablespoons for a post of tea and let steep for 1/2 hour.  Strain and sweeten with blackstrap molasses and enjoy!

Michele East is a prenatal yoga teacher at Karuna Yoga in Los Feliz and also at Mission Street Yoga in South Pasadena - stop by and say hi!
